13 March 1894 (Tuesday)

On the 1st day of March 1894, Austin L. TOMLINSON, the youngest member of this body (County Council) and a representative of the 2nd ward in this council died in Fullerton,[Los Angeles County] California where he had gone a short time before in search of health. The announcement of his death while not unexpected was a shock to us all. In our associations we found Mr. Tomlinson at all times a champion of the right; conscientious in every act and with the best interests of the city at heart at all times. He was faithful in the discharge of every duty imposed upon him and zealous in all his work. In the death of Mr. Tomlinson this city has lost a promising young colleague and this body an earnest co-worker. The city building will be draped for 30 days. Signed: Wm. A. Vanarsdall; AE Reynolds; Henry Campbell.
